Index Monitoring & Stats Gathering

Just a quick, hopefully simple question...

But if we turn on index monitoring and a Oracle decides to kick off a stats job, will that stats job affect the index monitoring?

I would say no because I assume to gather stats oracle does more table scans and such rather than using indexes? But in my web searches I hadn't found a clear answer, and I was hoping someone could help out? Thank in advance!
