Increasing SESSIONS, what would be wise?

446099Sep 5 2007 — edited Sep 11 2007
Hi,

We are running a 9.2.0.4 database on Suse Linux 9 in DEDICATED mode. The SESSIONS initialisation parameter is set to 150. As the number of (potential) users in our company is increasing, the frequency of "ORA-00018 maximum sessions exceeded" is increasing as well.

So we decide to increase is to 500. All fine, business is going well and a year later the ORA-00018 returns due to increasing number of users.

My discussion point is this: when should we consider going to shared server configuration or should we continue to increase the SESSIONS parameter always? How to determine (calculate?) the maximum value that can be used for SESSIONS?

Thank you very much for your advice...
