Increase in java objects ?

We have 2 different instances of jmap output. We see increase in object like java.lang.string, byte[],java.lang.object, java.util.TreeMap,java.util.Hashamp etc. Is this something to be worrying about? What is the difference shallow and retained heap in each of the instances?
