Implementation of timer in Oracle APEX

Hi,
I have created a timer that shows elapsed time in my application which looks like 00:00:01 which indicate the hh:mm:ss.
The problem is that whenever i press the refresh button the timer is again reset to 00:00:01. I am working on the Online Test Application and want the timer to show the elapsed time. I don't want the timer to be reset.
Please suggest something...
