ifconfig oracle installation on rhel on virtual box

Dear Friends...

I have install virtual box on windows xp and in it I have install linux rhel 5,

Now I was reading the steps to install the oracle 10g r2
one of the preinstallation step is to check the ipaddress to put in

/etc/hosts

when from the root prompt in linux , i gave the command

ifconfig eth0

I am getting the error message command not found...

Please someone help me...
