Identifying outlier points

562270May 28 2008 — edited May 28 2008
Hi, I am trying to identify a the significant points in a series.
Example: consider a sequence of 50 points in the shape of a "Z" I would like to identify the most important points in the sequence (i.e. Top left, top right corner, bottom left and bottom right) These points are significant to me as they indicate a change in orientation /direction. The points in between are less significant to the overall shape as they are simply in a straight line.
Is there such a function available in Oracle Spatial to identify outlier points that are at the extremes of a given range, with a specified threshold?
Or does anyone have any ideas on some functions/approach I could use to identify such points?
Many Thanks,

Eoin.
