Idenification before the record number

roymakaayOct 29 2009 — edited Oct 29 2009
How I can make an identification for records to show that records belong
to a specific table
in some systems a varchar datatype comes before a number
datatupe for this purpose

for example:-
suppose that an employees table contains a record
emp899
or
emp-899

Is these type of record made by procedures or function?
please can you give me an example

thank you
