Icon on custom button added to IG toolbar

Following the instructions in How to hack APEX Interactive Grid Part 2 | HardLikeSoftware added two new buttons to my IG.

Am I right I cannot give the buttons a Font Awesome icon, as the span class automatically prepends "a-Icon" and I cannot change it to "t-Icon"?

Also, is the Group Together that is used to separate the different components on the toolbar with vertical ruler? (how can I add a ruler myself is the question)
