I Officially Dislike Eclipse
807605Oct 9 2007 — edited Oct 11 2007So I've tried Eclipse a handful of times, but nothing really serious. When forced to chose an IDE I've always used NetBeans and have been pretty satisfied ... however ... I've been hearing nothing but "eclipse is wonderful", "eclipse is great", "you'll eventually see the light and come to eclipse", blah blah blah. So today, I broke down and finally went and got it again and installed it. Started it up and played around for a while. Same thing as the last few times: something's just not right; I don't like it. The more I play around with it, the more I get that same, somewhat annoyed feeling and then it hits me: I hate it. It is cluttered - waaaayyyy too cluttered. I get what they're trying to do by "simplifying" things, but for me they just get in the way; when I want to add a class to a project, I don't want to be bombarded with a screen-sized dialog ...... it's overbearing. It just seems like there is too much "stuff" by default that is visible (I know that that is configurable); it seems really scattered. I just don't see what all the fuss is about. I certainly don't see any improvement enhancements; it is somewhat intuitive - but not as intuitive IMHO as NetBeans....
so my question is directed to all of your Eclipse IDE users:
What's so wonderful/amazing about this IDE?? I'm not getting it.
