How to usesearch and replace function irrespective of upper or lower case

550307Apr 16 2008 — edited Apr 16 2008
I have table t1 and column c1; here is the data.

select * from t1;

c1

Rita
LoliTa

I need to replace column data 'it' with 12 irrespective of case.
when I do update t1 set c1=replace(upper(c1),'IT','12')

I get the result as
R12A
LOL12A

but what I am expecting is
R12a
Lol12a.

I really appreciate any reply for this.
