how to use LIKE function with a parameter in Oracle REPORT builder??

how could i use parameter inside a LIKE function in Oracle reports builder?

it works in SQL plus, but not in report builder!!

Example:
select code,desc from item_master where desc
like '%&give_desc%'; ---works in SQL

like '%:give_desc%' ---doesn't work in report builder!!
