How to use extractvalue to select values more than 4000 varchar2

Hi XML experts,

My name is John and I have a small question that need your expert advice. I have a xml value which needs to be extracted using the extractvalue function but the value content is quite large which can exceed 80,000 or more characters and I am not able to use the extractvalue and keep getting the ORA-01704: string literal too long error. Please let me know what is the alternate way to retrieve its value, thank you for your assistance.
