How to upgrade standby database?

liaison1Jun 25 2014 — edited Jun 26 2014

We have created a 3-node standby RAC system for our 3 node production database.   This is 10.2.0.4 on the primary, which the standby database RAC system is 10.2.0.5 with another patch set 16619894.   The standby database was created after 10.2.0.5 and patch 16619894 installed on the new RAC system, by rman duplicate database.    We will go on live in the near future for the standby.    Should we run the upgrade command with catalog script for the standby database after it is activated, as there are some upgrade script and catalog script need to run for the 10.2.0.4 database?    I guess, if we need to do so, we may have the following option:

  1. After 10.2.0.4 standby database being activated on the 10.2.0.5 oracle home, we need to run the upgrade post install procedure and catalog SQL scripts.
  2. Or, upgrade the current RAC production system from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5 with patch being applied on the standby server.

Do we have any other options?  What is the best solution on this?

Both RAC system are Soloaris 10 on SPARC 64-bits.

Oracle cluster, asm, and database home on primary is 10.2.0.4

Oracle cluster, asm, and database home on standby is 10.2.0.5

Thanks for help!
