How to try ASM on Windows 32bit installation ?

783956Sep 2 2010 — edited Aug 6 2012
Good morning,

I have an Oracle 11gR2 32bit installation in a VMware workstation to learn about Oracle, the host O/S is Windows XP 64bit, the guest O/S (where Oracle is installed) is 32bit Windows XP Pro SP2.

I wanted to get familiar with ASM but, apparently ASM is not available in 32bit flavor for 11g, at least for Windows. I am not familiar enough with Linux to consider using it at this time (Oracle is a lot to study without adding Linux to it.)

Is ASM available in 32bit flavor for Oracle 10g ? or some other version of Oracle that I could use to get acquainted with the mechanics of setting up and using ASM ?

Thank you for your help,

John.

PS: I found this document:

http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:xeUYYk-6jiMJ:www.holindis.co.uk/ora_ASM_windowsXP_v1.0.pdf+install+asm+on+windows&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESi-glGYNiZS8BlseP0sl2hJNXTDEHrUTQ5GE9mMoJlrd809qcYdGsIUY9NJTn71ovLex7tj2EqPMbdKMgy0UPaaei-PU0LZM9BlGUIGOBU72qunrMNn75ZYoiDoz64bbmv4sK7p&sig=AHIEtbTHChxAXF7xNbmveDgJ37sC7M4AnQ

which manages to hack ASM onto Windows XP but, this is not even close to the installation process in a production environment. For this reason, it is a nice "curiosity" but nothing else.
