How to tell Db Version

Hi All,

We have old rman backup wayback 2012, when I was not still with this company. I am task to restore it. But our database has been upgraded to the latest version.

I do not know what the exact version is this db rman backup.

Can latest RMAN tool be able to recovery old rman backups? Is it upward compatible or downwards?

If not Is there a way to browse the old rmanbackup to check the db version?
