699921Feb 8 2010 — edited Feb 10 2010
Hi

i am running oracle10gR2 on unix.

if i have to support arabic characters as well as english in my database, what i have to do to achieve this, what characterset should be chosen.

i had gone through a link about characterset http://www.cs.umbc.edu/portal/help/oracle8.bak/server803/A54645_01/ch4.htm
which says "In general, single-byte encoding schemes are used for European and Middle Eastern languages " what does it mean, any help in this is much appreciated. thanks.

if i have a
nls_characterset -WE8ISO8859P1
nls_language - AMERICAN

is there any way to make it to support arabic and english both.
