Good afternoon, I am using Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.12 on Windows and have created two VMs, one for Oracle Solaris 11,1 and the other for Oracle Solaris 11.2 For purposes of my questions, I will refer to Oracle Solaris 11.1 as VM1 and refer to Oracle Solaris 11.2 as VM2.
On VM1, I was prompted to upgrade to Oracle Solaris 11.2 and I chose to do so. Once the upgrade was finished, VM restarted and ended up at the Solaris prompt - the Gnome desktop would not open. Can someone please outline the steps I need to take, or point me to a link, that describes how to get the Gnome GUI desktop to open automatically at startup. I have searched all over Google and have yet to find a post or two that will shed some light on this.
For VM2, I created a new VM in Oracle VirtualBox and installed a fresh copy of Oracle Solaris 11,2 using the sol-11_2-text-x86.iso. The install went smoothly and Oracle Solaris starts up without any problems, and the Gnome GUI opens automatically. I download and installed the VB guest additions 4.3.12 for Solaris. My issue is the max resolution is 1024 by 768 . I would like to have the GUI open in full screen at a higher resolution e,g. 1280 by 960 (similar to VM1). When I right-click on the Gnome desktop, the max setting in "screen resolution" is 1024 X 768. Again, I have searched all over Google for any clues on whether or not a higher screen resolution is even possible and, if so, how to do this (other than through the Gnome desktop).
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can provide further info on either issues. Thanks very much!
