How to set Logger for Xalan/Xerces

Because of a faulty XML file, I get this error output on the console:

[Fatal Error] :4:28: The end-tag for element type "clientid" must end with a '>' delimiter.

How can I tell Xalan/Xerces to use a specific logger (instead of the default screen logger)?
