How to set background colour for HTML text field

Hi,

Please don't flame me for this question being slightly off-topic. I would like to indicate for the end user that a field is mandatory. Using the Field name* notation is good, but end users require slightly more indicative approach, they would like to have a light blue background for mandatory fields.

Is there an HTML attribute for text fields to achieve this? Thanks in advance.
