How to reuse variables in Forms FMW env file to avoid multiple retyping of hard-coded value

Greg G.Oct 16 2025

I am using Oracle FMW Forms 12.2.1.19.0, loaded on Linux Redhat 7, deployed as a servlet to inhouse Windows-based clients. I have a custom Forms app (not EBS). I have multiple non-prod support environments. Each has their own “app.env” file referenced in a particular config block in the formsweb.cfg file.

I would like to eliminate the multiple instances of hard-coding full paths of environment specific file locations in each file. I want to create a new local environment variable in each env file and then just use instances of that variable name throughout each env file. For example, we have multiple locations where our custom forms are located under a common top. Currently we hard-code all of these full-paths in the FORMS_PATH variable.

In my test case I chose “MYAPP” for the new variable name. I have tried $MYAPP, %MYAPP% and &MYAPP when trying to reuse the value initially set in the first line of each env file. None of these options worked.

I already created a ticket on Oracle Support. They said that they don't address “How-to” questions and directed me to this forum and OTN.
