how to retrieve sms messages from mobile phones

this is geeta.
i am able to send sms(short messages) to mobile phones.But i want to retrieve an sms from a mobile phone.Also i want to know if one can send an sms message(not an email) to an email account. if anybody knows how to retrieve a sms ,pls help.
