How to restore a in dataguard

Hi There,
How would I go about doing a restore of my primary database? I have one primary and one physical standby database. I want to restore back to July 4th. Do I have to turn dataguard off? Do I restore both primary and standby? Or do I restore the primary as if there was no dataguard set up and the standby will automatically pick it up?

Another question, The client wants me to restore to July 4th but may want me to restore to today. Is that possible? Any info will be appreciated.
