how to replace a 'null' in date field to zero

Hi guys,

I am a lil stuck with this problem.
I have a requirement where I need to replace a null value in the date field to zero.
For eg,

Cancel_date Cancel_date
20120301 20120301
20120908 20120908
null -------->>>>> 0
