How to remove old war files from the tomcat server

hi

can someone help me on how to remove old war files from tomcat servers.i removed from tomcat\webapps folder everytime i start and stop my server.But when i add the new war file in the Tomcat Application manager,I get an error (Failed,Already a war file exists on the server).

we could remove war files from webapps folder, but how to remove old wars from the tomcat server
