How to read the index.dat file to extract internet explorer history

Hi
Can anyone help me out in reading the index.dat file for Internet explorer history .
Can be found at
C:\Documents and Settings\jschmo\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\index.dat
This index.dat file is saved in a proprietary binary format .
