A couple of questions for those who may have gone through this.
We have been asked by management to look into converting our RAC databases to single instance, non-RAC databases. All to avoid the licensing costs of the RAC option (per processor - $23,000).
As far as the Oracle Corporation is concerned, what would the minimum requirements be to achieve this task? Note that we are on 11.2.0.4 and are using ASM and want to continue to do so. We have clusterware/ASM installed in its own ORACLE_HOME and the RDBMS in its own ORACLE_HOME.
We are already operating as RAC clusters, comprised of 1 node each, after having to drop all other non-primary nodes in each configuration.
I've seen some posts where users have converted/re-linked the database binaries by re-linking with the RAC option set to OFF, but does that alone meet the requirements by licensing? I am unsure if any special concessions need to be made to ASM to keep it working. Also, does Oracle require that any software be uninstalled from the server along with the relinking?
Thanks for any input,
Alex
