How to proper initialize log4j ?

I'm getting the following error message and I want to know how I can basically avoid getting this messages.

log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.springframework.jndi.JndiTemplate).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.

Please advise.
