How to print labels to a Zebra printer when connected via USB?

779246Jan 25 2011
Hi All,

I have a Zebra printer connected via the USB. I can actually plug in my laptop to the Zebra printer. When I try to ftp to the printer, the IP address of the printer is not recognized. How can I make the label printing to work? Does the FTP command work with the Zebra/USB combination at all since this printer is not on the network?

On the other hand, I have another Zebra printer(170XiIII) in our shop floor which is connected via the network. In this case, I simply go to start, run, ftp <printer>, enter none as userid and password and then simply type in put <zpl filename with .zpl extension>. This always works.

The Zebra printer connected to the USB is a relatively newer printer.

My question is: Can I have a simple setup like the above when I use a Zebra/ZPL/USB combination without having to use a Java script?

Apologies if the description is not clear. Kindly let me know if further details are needed. Many thanks for your help.

Very best regards,
William H. Andruss Jr.
