How to pass credentials to JConsole needed for JMX password authentication when launching it via command line from the terminal (e.g. launched programmatically by another application)?

I don't want to type the credentials in JConsole's GUI.

Additional information:

• Use Case: I want to monitor a remote Java application with JConsole via JMX. The app which should be monitored is running a MBean server with MBeans.
• Remote connection via JConsole works fine without password authentication using this command „jconsole service:jmx:rmi://192.168.6.123/stub/rO0ABXNyAndSoOn......“
• File-Based password authentication works well when specifying the JMX service URL and the user name and password within JConsole's GUI (http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/management/figures/connectadv.gif).
• I tried to start JConsole with some of these JVM system properties mentioned on this site but without success: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/management/agent.html. But it is not always clear whether these properties have to be used on the JMX server or client side.

  • Oracle Java 7 and 8
  • JConsole 7 and 8
  • Ubuntu
  • Authentication method: File-based password authentication.
