How to partition a 300GB hard drive?

I have two 300GB drives I plan to mirror.

Now how many partitions and of what sizes do I create given 300GB size?

Should I put everything except swap under / ?

Do I need a separate partition for /tmp, /var, /usr, /opt and so on?
