How to order checkbox value direction

Hi,

Can anyone give me some guidance on how to change the ordering of the checkbox values direction... I have a simple check box that adds about 30 values to a page. I have 3 columns for the checkbox layout. at the moment the layout shows the values going from left to right for 3 values then new line. Is there a way to have the layout go down the page by 10 values then start a new column for another 10 and again for another 10... (would be great if it added as many columns as needed)...
