Oracle Forms

Hi ,
I would like to open my form in query mode. when the user finishes to fill the master block, he will hit a button to make a research.
if record found, he will make an update in the detail block, else i would like to keep in place the criterias in the master block and pass my form in Insert mode. So the user will be able to fill the detail block and save the new record.
how i could do that?

I should go on production with this change next Monday
