How to mount and use Tape drive for RMAN Backup ?

Karthik AppsysJun 26 2015 — edited Jun 28 2015

Dear Legends,

I'm new to using tape drive for RMAN Backups. Our Env details: RHEL 5.9 as host machine and Production in Oracle VBox R12.1.3 same O/s in vm also.

The Tape drive is connected with host machine.

How will I make use of the Tape drive from Host machine to VM ?

Some what I tried to find the tape drive commands in Host machine.

# lsscsi

[0:2:0:0]    disk    LSI      RAID 5/6 SAS 6G  2.13  /dev/sda

[0:2:1:0]    disk    LSI      RAID 5/6 SAS 6G  2.13  /dev/sdb

[1:0:0:0]    tape    IBM      ULTRIUM-HH6      D2DB  /dev/st0

mt -f /dev/st0 status

SCSI 2 tape drive:

File number=0, block number=0, partition=0.

Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x5a (no translation).

Soft error count since last status=0

General status bits on (41010000):

BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN

I don't know what the status tells. Any kind of help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Karthik
