How to monitor 2 targets with same database name

emersoklMay 16 2016 — edited May 27 2016

Hi Everyone!

I could really use some advice or guidance.  Does anyone  know if it is possible to have OEM monitor 2 database targets using the same database name but on different servers?

Background:  We want to clone some of our test boxes for testing an upgrade process.  All test boxes are deleted when we are done but we poke around and test on them for a few weeks looking for issues.  That is why I want to be able to monitor them using OEM. Below is how I think I should do it but it would nice if someone could confirm I have the steps correct?  Please keep in mind I'm new to OEM:)

  1. Create HYPERV clone of SERVER1 as SERVER2 (new IP address).
  2. Change SERVER2 “db_unique_name” init.ora value on SERVER2 from Demo to Demo2.
  3. Change SERVER2 environment variables
            1. oracle_Unqname = Demo2

            2. Oracle_Hostname=SERVER2.domain.LOCAL
  4. Restart SERVER2 database
  5. De-install the OEM AGENT on SERVER2  (is this necessary??)
  6. Re-install OEM AGENT on SERVER2
  7. On OEM re-discover SERVER2 using “add targets using guided process”
  8. Will OEM be able to keep the sids and listeners straight between the two servers?

Thanks for taking my question!

Kathie

P.S.  I would just give this a try but I'm waiting on some firewall changes to SERVER2 and wanted to get the ball rolling
