How to migrate SQL Server Reports to Oracle

SamTrexlerAug 28 2009
I am an experienced Oracle developer/dba working in a mostly-Microsoft shop. Most of our projects use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008, and we have a large number of reports developed using SQL Server reporting. In addition, end users use this tool for ad hoc reporting.

We are looking to migrate one project from Microsfot to Oracle. I can handle the database migration okay, but I'm wondering about the reports.

- What is the most appropriate tool (prefer low-cost) for implementing the reports? Oracle Reports? Discoverer? BI Publisher? Other? Stengths/weaknesses/comparison info on the products?

- Are there migration products to assist with migrating the reports, or do we need to re-develop each one?

- Any experience and/or metrics about migrating simple, moderate and complex reports? Time and skill level required?

Thanks for any help or pointers on this subject.
