How to increase the size of the select list

i would lik to increase the width of a select list. in order to be able to see the full length of an element. As you can see below the select list does not display the full element list.

I have seen this thread but it refers to an older version of APEX : Restrict the width of the list item

I have tried to put style="width:440px"; into the Option HTML Attributes of the Advanced section of the select list, without success.
