how to get the difference of dates in days

Hi friends,

how to get the difference of dates between two dates exactly

date1-date2 in days exactly.... shouyld be rounded of to nearest value..

and should display integer only i mean positive integer
select round ((sysdate)-to_date(date_start)),date_start as days from per_periods_of_service

this is giving result in negative also
