How to fall back after upgrade failed

emersoklFeb 3 2014 — edited Feb 3 2014

Good afternoon!

I'm hoping someone could give me some advice on how to get my old
windows 11.2.0.3 database back after the DBUA out-of-place upgrade failed.

Some background:     I was trying to upgrade from  a 11.2.0.3 (db_1) to 11.2.0.4 (db_4) when it aborted with a maxdatafiles exceeded error.  My plan was to use the DBUA utility backup to revert back to
11.2.0.3 but the utility job died and I read I can’t use it to recover after it goes to end of job.

TO RECOVER:

I reset my environment variables for both the oracle home and path to the old home (oracle base didn't change)

I did an echo %oracle_home% and verified I had the correct home.

  Set dbid= xxxxxxxx

I restored database to a few days prior to the upgrade

I recovered database to the same date and time as above

Next I tried to open the database but I get a message >>> “upgrade needed”.

Can someone tell me what I did wrong?  I'm pretty sure I'm connected to the wrong database even though my environment variables where changed.   A create pfile from spfile confirmed this when it created it under the db_4 home.

    Thanks!

  Kathie
