How to display total number of rows in Dashboard

Hi,

I have a report in Dashboard that extracts the list of projects and details, it grows on a daily basis, instead of users downloading the report and finding out the total number of projects,I want to display "the total number of projects" alone in the dashboard. How do I do it?

Also is it possible to make it as a pop-up or a flash news kinda stuff - Not necessary but will be great if I can do it.
