How to Disable a BLOCK?

Hi All,

I'm developing a form I should not allow users to update anything when the Approval Status in the Form is
'APPROVED' or 'PENDING APPROVAL'. It is updateable only if the Approval Status is 'NEW' or 'REJECTED'.

I have two Blocks XX_AP_RR_HDR and XX_AP_RR_DTLS. I need to Disable both the blocks when the status is APPROVED and PENDING APPROVAL

Could Someone please suggest me how to disable the blocks against Update?
