How to crash Oracle?

Mike KutzDec 10 2015 — edited Jan 24 2016

Lets suppose that you had a "crash test dummy" environment that you want to give to "new DBAs" to try to maintain... as a training exercise, of course.

What types of things would you do to it to help them "learn on the job"?

For simplicity, let's limit it to non-RAC environments

Obviously, you really don't want to run this in any environment used for Business including the Development server(s).

Some ideas I have

  • zero out a few data blocks. (w/o Active Data Guard.)
  • infinite loop that does pDML inside of DPE
  • remove a hard drive (try the one used to mount "/" )
  • hide your MP3 collection on the FRA LUN (in a ".hidden" folder)

Please share your "excellent" ideas
