One of the main holdups for us moving to windows 10 is the
inability to enable ODBC connectivity to the ERP database. Several
Microsoft Access “Helper” applications read data from the site Oracle 7.3 ERP
database using ODBC connections. Most notably, two such applications were
written by our manager.
The Oracle 8 client side install, we obtained from x parent
company, installs and works as expected in Windows 10 as it does on Windows
7. That is, Software that directly access the Oracle client side drivers
allows access to the Oracle 7.3 database. Therefore, the external ERP programming
written by IT works as expected on a Windows 10 client.
The problem comes configuring client side ODBC access using
the standard Oracle ODBC connectors, either “Oracle ODBC Driver” or the “Microsoft
ODBC for Oracle” (we prefer this one) connectors. While these seem to
configure as expected, they break with an error message when used to access the
Oracle 7.3 ERP database.
Any assistance finding third party or other ODBC drivers
that when installed on Windows 10 allows connectivity to our existing ERP
Oracle 7.3 database would be of great assistance in the Windows 10 migration.
