how to connect to Oracle XE from an Ubuntu Karmic Desktop?

742860Dec 23 2009 — edited Dec 27 2009
hello All,

my need is very simple (as my database knowledge!).

I have many OpenOffice Base queries I wrote that access our Oracle XE database.
I would like to move my desktop from XP to Ubuntu Karmic, but I would like to carry the queries with me.

I can open the queries with OOo from Karmic, of course, but although I have unixodbc 2.2.11-16 and odbcinst1debian1 2.2.11-16 already installed, I can't connect my db because:

[unixODBC][Driver Manager] Data source name not found, and no default driver specified

The message is self-explanatory, but where have I got to fill this information?
I have googled all over but it seems a very well kept secret...

thanks for your time,
ciao,
-Gian
