How to connect remotelly to a server using SQL Developer 4.0 (4.0.0.12.84)?

Complete newbie in databases remote access so please bear with me.

Started a work on data analysis for a company and they are using Oracle SQL Developer 4.0  to access their data.

I downloaded and installed the Oracle SQL  Developer in my laptop while I was on their network and everything worked fine.
I could access and view the data.

I created and saved a couple of connections that worked fine there.

My problem started when I arrived home and now the connection don´t work and I get na error message: “The Network Adapter could not establish the connection”.

I have the following settings:

Connection Name: filled

Username: filled

Password: filled

Oracle (not Access)

Connection Type: Basic

Role: Default

Filled info:

Hostname: the IP address

Port: 1521 (default)

SID: ORCL

No ticks on the 3 boxes bellow:

OS Authenticvation
Kerberos Authenticationm
Proxy Connection

Is there something I need to change in the connection settings or do I need another application to access their server remotelly?

Many thanks
