How to configure memory of Oracle dB 11g

Nico van de KampMar 28 2017 — edited Mar 30 2017

Hello,

To teach myself I have installed a Oracle database on my "privat" laptop with the specs: Toshiba Qosmio X500-11U, specs: , Intel Core i7 720QM, 8 GB, Windows 7 home.

My system is running into low memory, especialy photoshop, eclipse and Mozilla FireFox do have problems with it.

Not always immediatly it depends when I start photoshop for example. When I start photoshop immediatly when laptop is up and running, it takes probably 20 minutes when this issue comes up. If I do first some other things and let say after 1 hour I start photoshop, then I get immediatly the error message "system is running in to low memory".

I'm not a DBA'er but I want to learn SQL - PL/SQL, constriaints, indexes etc.

Now I detected that if turn off the service, with the task manager, "Oracle RDBMS Kernel executable", then the problem is over.

My question:

  • do I or can I configure the memory usage of the Oracle database somewere? Or is there another opportunity to solve this?

I read on some forums, you must not install it on a regular computer, if you want this configure a "special" database server: "If you want to play with the big guys, you need big Toys"

With regards,

Nico
