How to completely remove all virtualization support for Oracle Linux 7 (for security purposes)

DavidBarilJan 7 2019 — edited Mar 1 2019

I have seen the KB article about removing the "virbr0" and "virbr0-net" devices using virsh net-destroy default and net-undefine default commands followed by systemctl stop and disable of the libvirtd service.

This works as documented, but the various "libvirt*" and "kvm*" packages are still installed ... and as such, the virtualization services could be re-enabled and re-stated.

Which specific libvirt and kvm packages need also to be removed using yum to fully remove support for virtualization?  No containers or other virtualization is being used, but I am not sure what base Oracle Linux services may have dependencies on these packages.  For example, does "cgroups" have libvirtd dependencies?

I know if I had originally installed a minimal Oracle Linux system, the various libvirt and kvm packages would have not been installed.  I don't want to do a reinstall, just remove the unneeded packages.

If there are system base facilities that need libvirt-related packages, I will have to leave the packages installed, and just remove the virbr0 and virbr0-net devices.

Thank you for your help.
