how to check if the jdbc connection is secured

We are making a JDBC connection (using sql developer) to the DBaaS instance provided to us.

How to verify if the connection is going through the secured channel?

How to set the value for this CONNECTION_PROPERTY_THIN_NET_ENCRYPTION_LEVEL for sql developer connection
