how to change Application ID? or is there a way to effectively replace app?

Hi all

I have duplicated an app and do updates on it. Now I want to replace the updated app to the old app, so the users will be using the same URL.

Is there a way to assign application ID? and is there a way to effectively do developments while the users are actively using the app?
