How to append to a variable of type text in a package?

Hi guys,
After a few years as an OWB guy, getting my feet wet with ODI. So far - really liking it!

Anyway, a question. If I want to append to a variable of type text as a step in my package - how do I do this? I see how to refresh based on a query, but haven't figured out how to get that query to include the current value of the variable, and I have a tired a couple of things in the Set Variable assignment box hat I thought might work out but with no success.

So - is this possible?
