How to add certificates during runtime to a truststore?

843811Dec 12 2007 — edited Dec 31 2007
Can someone point me to a tutorial or offer some advice on how to add certificates to a truststore if the the web-application or java-application is already up and running and stopping/starting the application server is not a viable option?

I think this is a pain-point that a lot of users should identify with. Its bad enough that people have to start/stop application servers, in order for any changes made to a truststore to be picked up. But to add to the problem, (often enough) system administrators don't make the changes to the correct truststore for the particular application server and only realize their mistakes after a few trial and errors.

Whereas if a programmatic change could be made to whatever object is present in an application server at runtime to adjust the certificates, then it would be far simpler. There would definitely be some redundancy to the exercise because one should the change to the actual truststore as well but that's a decent trade-off so that the programatically-added-certificates don't seem to disappear one day if the server gets restarted.
